Answers:

Most supermarkets have a layout strategy to try to get you to buy-buy-buy.They start out by putting "impulse purchases"in the very front of the store.Impulse purchases are usually things that look or smell very good-produce,flowers,fresh deli, baked goods(mmm smell that roasted chicken). All the stuff on your list is usually in between on shelves or in freezer cases. They put milk and bread in the back of the store because if you run in to pick up a jug of milk, then you are forced to walk past all the other stuff, and you might pick up a few more things.Even the shelf items have a selling strategy. The items are shelved according to profit. The items at eye level are the ones they would like you to buy. Also, there are a lot of things stores do to slow your journey through food land. The longer you stay in a store, the more you buy.Playing music, having "sample displays",putting up displays to slow traffic and changing isles slow you down. This is probably too much information, but it's an interesting subject.
