can anyone tell me why do they call a 99 ice-cream a 99?

The 99 is the name of the flake itself.
ther are many explanations for the origins of the name 99, it is most probably named after the icecream shop which sold the 99, it was so called because the shop address was 99 high st, owned by the Acari family ,portobello scotland circa 1922.
