Why does McDonalds do this?!

Question:

Why does McDonalds do this?

I just bought some cookies from Mcdonalds and I just now noticed on the back of the bag it says "Baked fresh daily" in huge letters but then in small letters below it says "Cookies may have been exposed to peanut dust"

What is really the meaning of cookies being exposed to peanut dust? And did they start putting this only because of the peanut butter scare?

I know companies only have to list things that can cause illness or death directly but this makes me wonder some of the things my cookie has been exposed to that they are not telling me. Any ideas?

Answers:

The warning was intended for those who suffer from peanut allergies. It is now a federal law that any product (including a bag of peanuts) must carry this warning if it may have come in contact with peanuts or peanut dust. It's also why they don't serve peanuts on planes anymore in the US.
