Why don't pickles expire within like a year?!

Question:

Why don't pickles expire within like a year?

I just ate three and remarkably they are fine, they've been sitting in my fridge for 9+ months already. are they bad?

Answers:

Pickles.........They are preserved in a brine solution, salt, vinegar, and water, hence the name pickled. As long as you have kept them in your refrigerator after opening them, they're quite safe. On the other hand, should you have opened them and just left them in a cabinet or pantry, I wouldn't even consider eating one. The fuzzy green mold and rancid smell upon opening them would have been a dead giveaway for not consuming them. But since they were refrigerated, they should be alright. Not as crispy maybe, but still okay for consumption.
