Does anyone know why do suppliers ship oysters upside down?!

Question:

Does anyone know why do suppliers ship oysters upside down?

Answers:

I am not 100 % sure, but if you mean in jars.... my guess would be to keep air out. If the juice is right up against the seal of the jar, air cannot get in. If the air is at the top of the jar it would make them go bad faster.

Just a guess.
