Food for a party?!
Food for a party?
Im starting to plan my husbands welcome home party ( he will be home in less then 3 months after doing a 15 month deployment in Iraq) There will be me, my hubby, our son and 14 other family members at the party. Any ideas of foods that could be served? Should I do a buffet style, or just do finger foods such as meat and cheese trays???

Thanks JC I like the idea, but all our family is from Florida and we are stationed in Northern New York.. so its up to me for all the food...I will have a couple of my husbands favorite foods though

If it was me I would do finger foods that way you will not be spending most of your time in the kitchen when you can be spending time with him the day of the gathering. With most finger foods you can do the day before. I would go and get a variety of lunch meats and roll them up and arrange on a tray.Do the same for a vegi tray but leave room in the middle to put a dip, small fruit tray,a cracker tray. You can cook some hot wings and some popcorn chicken tray and this is always my favorite crescent chicken rolls. the way you make this is get about 5 cans of chicken and 4 cans of crescent rolls.Drain water off of chicken and place in a mixing bowl, add 3tbs of mayo, salt and pepper and mix well. Take crescent rolls and seperate them, you will then place a tbs of the chicken mixture in the center of each crescent roll and roll it up and bake until golden brown. You can also do a chip and dip tray.I don't know if ya'll are drinkers but if you are here is a sunset cocktail you can make.
orange vodka
mango nectar
grenadine
dark rum
add ice to each glass
put a shot of the vodka in each glass
fill the glasses almost to the top with the nectar
pour 1/2 shot of grenadine in each glass
as the grenadine is sinking to the bottom of the glasses float the rum by pouring it over the back of the spoon. you will need 1 shot for each glass.
like I said if this was me doing this I would do the finger foods so you will get to spend time with your hubby and not so much the kitchen. If you decide to do the finger foods all you will have to cook the day of the gathering is the hot wings and popcorn chicken and a sandwich tray if you decide to go with these foods, that is. I hope everything goes well for you and I hope you all have a great time.God Bless you for being a service mans wife and God Bless Your Husband for defending our country..
