Hardboiled Egg in Meatloaf?!

Question:

Hardboiled Egg in Meatloaf?

Why do people put a hard boiled egg in meatloaf?
I've heard of it, never tried it or tasted it. I know about raw eggs but does it do something special?
Does it have origins in a certain culture or anyone know where it started?

Answers:

Doesn't do anything special. Just adds visual and texture interest. The idea of adding a boiled egg in the center of baked ground meat dishes is common in both Europe and Asia. No doubt it found its way into our meatloaves from those cuisines.

I might try a handful of quail eggs next time just for fun. They taste the same as chicken eggs, but are only about the size of a large olive.
