Blood in eggs?!

Question:

Blood in eggs?

Can people eat eggs that have blood spots in them or will they make you sick?

Answers:

Those eggs have been fertilized. They will not make you sick. They are fine. Many "home grown" eggs have been fertilized.
It makes me sad how many people here don't know a fertilized chicken egg when they see one. Chickens grown in "factories" who can't even move around produce sterile eggs. They are never around a rooster, so their eggs are never fertilized. Fertilized eggs don't have any extra nutritional/or negative value. What it means is that the chicken who laid it may have been raised in a more humane environment, and actually allowed to walk around.
