Do people like/dislike foods based on connotations, or is there a chemical reason why we all have preferences?!

Question:

Do people like/dislike foods based on connotations, or is there a chemical reason why we all have preferences?

Is there a chemical similar to a hormone or something that makes certain people like certain foods and dislike others? Or it all just in our heads, something that we build up psychologically?

Answers:

I think it is what you get use to eating when your a kid,I am sure we pick up other food we like as we get older but the home cooking of mom's is still the best.
