Why do people like licorice?!

Question:

Why do people like licorice?

I've never liked licorice.. it's not even sweet like candy's supposed to be! What's it made from anyway?

Answers:

Licorice, the black chewy candy, is made from the root of a plant called licorice and from aniseseed oil.

There is another licorice, spelled "liquorice", colored red, which is chewy and sweet, made of cherries or strawberries, and more recently of other fruits like mango and watermelon. This sort of candy resembles the "jujubes' you can find in cookbooks published in India in the last century.

If you would like, there is an article about licorice and the newer candies in Wikipedia.

I like black licorice because it settles my stomach.
