Best to eat within the first hour after working out, like the above person said your body is at its peak for metabolic break down of foods. Also, eating within this first hour your body will not only break the foods down faster but your muscles will be supplied nutrients quickly, preventing fatigue and soreness the next day also boosting recovery time. Eating something high in protein, with a mix of simple sugars ( if you are not dieting ) id stick with protein and veggies or maybe some fruit if your working out early in the day.
