im babysitting and i was going to heat up some potatoes but due to the warm weather (im guessing) there are some greet and red sprout kind of things growing out of it. are they safe to eat? do i need to remove them..?

any help is appreciated.

Answers:

Oh it's nodes/eye buds if you keep them longer it will grow leaves & become a plant if the potatoes are really greenish wth. grey spots inside thn it's not consumable coz. of the poison it turned out.

But if it's just a bit of the spots effected thn cut off a thick layer of the skin & wash it off wth warm water & salt. It will remove the "stratch" taste; although not compulsory. You can also soak them in cold water after removing it's skin.

Btw. it's not advisable to store potatoes in any place with sunlights or warm place as it will promote growths.
