What's a doughnut?!

Question:

What's a doughnut?

Answers:

it's a circular pastry with a hole in the middle that is either made from a yeast based dough that rises and is soft and fluffy or from a "cake" based dough that is slightly denser. They are fried and then either iced with a thin glaze, frosted, coated with sugar or left plain. The frosted ones are sometimes topped with sprinkles or nuts.

The yeast based ones can be made into various shapes and can also be filled with cream, a pudding base or fruit fillings.

There are donut holes that are small round balls of these pastries that were sold when the holes actually were punched out before frying. Now they are produced on their own!

(my father has worked with donuts for years and I worked with him in the past - i'm not just some donut geek! lol)
