Lactaid pills?!
Lactaid pills?
Is it okay to take more than 2 a day (for example 2 in the morning with milk and 2 more later with ice cream, etc.)?
Also if you don't take it, and you're unable to digest the milk, does that mean you're not receiving the benefits of it like calcium and protein?
Answers:
my fiance is severely lactose intolerant and I am only somewhat. Because of this, we don't drink milk by the glass. We only use it in hot cereal or coffee. We eat alot of cheese but he is ok in small doses. Lots of cheese and we both take a pill. Feta and cottage cheese will damn near kill him.
But anyway, usually w/ most brands, the recommended dosage is only 1 tablet. My fiance has taken a pill twice in one day and felt fine but I don't know how about taking any more than that.
Lactose is the predominant sugar in milk products. An enzyme called lactase is produced in the small intestine and breaks down lactose so it can be absorbed into the bloodstream. People whose bodies do not make enough lactase to fully digest lactose are unable to break down lactose and may experience mild to severe side effects within 30 minutes to two hours of eating dairy. This condition, called lactose intolerance, is very common. It is not usually serious, but its symptoms can be bothersome.
Have you tried lactaid milk?
Also interstingly, Bryers Ice Cream has come up w/ a lactose free icecream. Check it out at the link below.
