Calling any Filipino or fruit expert...?
The mangosteen ban has just been lifted and the import of them to the U.S. is now legal. My mother cannot remember this fruit although I am positive that when we were in the Philippines all of us ate them (my sister and I vividly remember this fruit). Is this fruit known by another name in the Philippines?
Here is a Wiki link to what the fruit looks like :

Thanks.

epic: Dude! The first batch has arrived in New York somewhere, at some posh store, I can't remember which. The mangosteen was going for $12 each! They sold out and were still getting calls for orders! Can't wait till they have a better supply, then the price will surely (didn't mean to call you Shirley) go down. I remember enjoying them sooo much!

no that's the name. It was an excellent fruit. I was there a few months ago, and we feasted on mangosteen and mahrang since they were in season. I hope to see mangosteen in the grocery stores some day, but I'll expect to pay an arm and a leg I suppose.
