Is it safe to eat the sunflower seed shell?!

Is it safe to eat the sunflower seed shell?

i eat sunflowers seeds with the shell on. Is this dangerous or something? my dad keeps telling me not to eat them and just spit out the shells, but i like them this way!

I do the same thing, I dont think it would cause any problems, (it hasn't me) I know your digestive system doesn't digest them ( its kinda the same thing with corn), the only problem that I know would cause a problem, is where the shells are kinda sharp( especially when they have been chewed) and when you go to use the bathroom(number two) they could cut your rectum, and make you bleed a little.
