What is the difference between peanut butter and nut butter?!

Question:

What is the difference between peanut butter and nut butter?

Are they two different things, or just two different ways of saying the word?

Answers:

Peanut butter is specifically made from peanuts. So indeed, peanut butter would be a nut butter. But if someone ask if you what some nut butter you may want to ask what nut the butter is made from.

Nut butter refers to any butter made from nuts.

Nut butter refers to the mashing of nuts to create a spread. Other nut butters from common nuts include:

Walnut butter
Almond butter
Hazelnut butter
Macadamia nut butter
Pecan butter

Of course we all know techinically peanuts are not nuts but legumes. But for all intents and purposes they are referred to as a nut.
