Long-term Cantaloupe (muskmelon) storage.....?!

Question:

Long-term Cantaloupe (muskmelon) storage.....?

Can cantaloupe be frozen and then re-thawed to eat, or will it turn to mush like green peppers?

Melons are at the peak of the season right now, and the price is awesome! I have a family of eight and we all love them. Price and availability will not be around for long.

I do know that they can be eaten frozen; we have done this with melon-balls throughout the summer. The real point of this question / my biggest concern is can it be completely thawed out and consumed once frozen, or must they be consumed while frozen?

Answers:

You can freeze them but they do get a little mushy. I like to eat them frozen though. If you do freeze them do it when they are really ripe, they'll taste better.
