What foods have red dye in them? What other food dyes should not be in foods?!

Question:

What foods have red dye in them? What other food dyes should not be in foods?

Answers:

Most processed foods contain food dye of some sort. Red food dye is made from crushed cochineal beatles (google "carmine") I dont use anything that contains food dyes of any sort-many people are allergic to them and develop symptoms that are misdiagnosed, such as migrains, joint pain, asthma, etc. I dont believe that food needs to be bright green or orange to be appetizing. Look for ingredients labeled FDC #, lakes, oxides, or any other coloring. Also avoid colors labeled as "natural food coloring"., as they are often made from animal or insect sources as well. Your best bet for avoiding dyes is to make everything homemade, using organic ingredients. Yes, its more work, but well worth the effort. Keep in mind that dyes are also used in medications, shampoos, cosmetics, cleansers, and most other commercial products
