prunes cant be dried plums cuz then why would they call them dried prunes? and why would there be "prune juice".. u cant make prune juice out of dried fruit?

Answers:

Prunes are a group of plums that have an oblong shape and a very high sugar content. They have a dark purple skin. They originated in Europe. The high sugar content of the prune allows it to be sun dried without fermenting. Thus we usually see the prune after it has been dried. This why we mistakenly think of prunes as a dried plum.

The plum is is more round and has a higher water content. They are often referred to as Japanese plums. They may have golden, red or blue colored skins. Plums do not sun dry easily.

So a prune is a plum, but a plum is not necessarily a prune. Both fruits are eaten when fresh and when dried.
