Is it bad to leave meat out overnight to defrost?!

Question:

Is it bad to leave meat out overnight to defrost?

Someone in my house constantly does this, and when I wake up and go downstairs I find it and it's barely cold, or warm already, and I thought this was a bad thing to do because of bacteria or something.

Am I wrong in thinking this? I hesitate to eat this stuff.

Answers:

Yes! It's very bad! Bacteria sets in and it can make you very sick. Instead, put the meat in a plastic bag and in a bowl or sink full of water. Drain and change the water every 15-20 minutes until thawed.
