How does the shiny cardboard work in a microwave pizza?!

Question:

How does the shiny cardboard work in a microwave pizza?

I know you cant put metal in a microwave -so how does the disc work at cooking the pizza(they dont taste very good though ;()

Answers:

IIRC it's called susceptor board. Its been a while since I had to study that stuff so I can't remember the mechanics of how it works, but it provides an extra amount of heat to the bottom of the pizza making it crispy. They use it on lots of microwavable foods (hot pockets and such) to give it a crispy, cooked in a conventional oven, feel.
