Let me clarify, could you get cancer if you eat the candy?
Answers:
Microwave radiation, if it does escape your oven will not cause any problems with candy, whether it is in a thick or thin glass jar. IF enough radiation were to escape, it would might melt the candy, or at least warm it up.
Microwaves are built well. Radiation isn't known to escape today's units unless they are damaged. Cancer from microwave ovens has been an urban legend/myth for more than 30 years.
The man who discovered the properties of radar radiation, which is used in our microwave ovens, originally had been working with microwave antennas. The machinery had been operating while he stood in front of it.
Though I've never seen an account of how much energy was being used at the time, it was only enough to soft melt a chocolate bar in his shirt pocket.
I hope this helps.
