Is it true that peanuts are legumes & not nuts?!

Question:

Is it true that peanuts are legumes & not nuts?

That's what I read on a cereal box.

Answers:

A legume is a plant that has nitrogen making nodules on its roots. A peanut falls in this category, so it is a legume. Some legumes have pods above ground (peas, beans, clover, etc), but others like peanuts grow underground. You are actually eating part of the root.
