Melons....do they have much in the way of nutrional value?!

Question:

Melons....do they have much in the way of nutrional value?

Just curious. I'm not a huge fan of many types of fruit, but quite happy to chomp away on as much melon as I can get my hands on. You never hear anything about melon being particularly good for you and I just wondered what vitamins etc., they do contain?

Answers:

The nutritive value of melons greatly depends on the variety of melon. Melons are in the same family as squash; their nutritive value ranks somewhere between summer and winter squash. Most are excellent sources of vitamin C and potassium. Varieties with a deep orange flesh, such as cantaloupe, are exceptional sources of beta carotene, which provides vitamin A.
