Question:

Answers:

things that cause cookies to spread:
high sugar content
course sugar (fine and powdered reduce spread)
high baking soda content
how much air you incorporate when creaming butter and sugar (more air=more spread. go lightly and leave it a thick paste)
low oven temp increases spread (high temp decreases by setting the outside of the cookie quicker)
slack batter (thick batters spread less, low moisture content)
flours with higher protein content reduce spread, if you're using cake or pastry flour, that could be your problem. you might want to go half all purpose and half bread flour.

and last but not least!

cookies spread more when baking on highly greased surfaces or silpats.
go with parchment paper.

so if you see any of these in the recipe, you might want to adjust and try then.

hope it helps!
