Answers:

Whether they are good or not depends on how long they were stored before you bought them.

Chickens don't lay many eggs in wintertime, and there is a huge demand in the spring, when Easter comes around. Consequently, egg processors wax their eggs, and they store them for *months* before selling them as fresh.

Eggs don't even have to be refrigerated. They'll keep for *weeks* at room temperature.

What happens first is that the eggs will dry out. That changes an egg from the best grade to a lesser grade - premium grade eggs stand up really high when you fry them. Lower grade eggs lay flatter in the skillet.. But eggs that have dried out a little are MUCH better for hard-boiling.

If your eggs are bad, they will *smell* bad. Once you've smelt rotten eggs, you won't forget the perfume. And sometimes, eggs will *look* wrong, especially if the eggs have been fertilized.

Not a big deal to throw out the eggs; at $1.20/dozen, that's only 80c a pound. But you really should make eggs a regular part of your diet. They provide lecithin, which is an important nutrient. Soy products provide lecithin as well, but it's a different chemical entirely. Thus, eggs don't screw up your hormone system like soy products do.

Eggs are an important source of cholesterol, a chemical your body needs to make both Vitamin D, and the sex hormones. If you want to feel sexier, eat more eggs!
