Food preparation question?!

Question:

Food preparation question?

In UK food factories it is a requirement to wear hair nets that cover all hair and your ears,,also if you have a beard you have to wear a beard snood, this is because the main complaint from customers is hair in the packets,,,so why do chefs in restaurants not adhere to this as well?

Answers:

Chefs are required to wear hats, not necessarily that covers all your hair. eg I work in a school kitchen and part of my uniform is a skull cap. It doesn't cover my hair totally, much as I try. Since my hair is not long enough I can't put it in a pony tail, so it sticks out at the sides of my head and the back, not an ideal situation. In any case I'm complying with the law.

On the other hand I was recently at a very popular eaterie in Totnes, from my table I could see into the kitchen and I observed that none of the chefs/cooks were wearing hats of any kind. A health and safety inspector could have had a field day.
