Is it wrong or bad etiquette to mix your food together on your plate, must you taste them separately?!

Question:

Is it wrong or bad etiquette to mix your food together on your plate, must you taste them separately?

Odd question I know but for one I don't like meat plain so will mix it with other things, and often mix mashed potatoes with other things. I like to do that, mix them together. I like the flavors and can make something not good taste good or better. I get a lot of flack at my boyfriends house about it though my parents do not seem to care, Is it no appropriate?

Answers:

if your at home and or at your boy friends in a casual setting, it really does not matter, as long as you practice the proper eating manners and table etiquette (please, thank you, don't chew with your mouth open, etc etc etc) but if you were to go to a semi formal or formal dinner it would not be proper to mix your food, and in most cases it is served separately by course anyway.....as well as the place settings and different utensils, bread placement, drink placement....where to place your used utensils napkin folding etc etc....
