Why do most crisps (or chips) come in such random sizes/shapes?!

Question:

Why do most crisps (or chips) come in such random sizes/shapes?

I ask because you can get shaped ones (monster munch, skips etc), but most packs come in tatally random shapes and sizes, is the manufacturing process more expensive to make them into shapes? And do you get more value for money with shaped or random crisps/chips?

Answers:

Random sized/shaped chips are generally made from actual potatoes or tortillas, vegetables, or whatever you are talking about.

The uniform shape "crisps" that you are talking about are more highly processed, made from dehydrated powders, and are less expensive to manufacture. And they represent everything unholy in the food world.
