Whole foods tends to be a little more expensive, and the items they carry (organic, etc.) tend to be more expensive than the norm. So I would have to say that the people who shop at Whole Foods are upper middle class or above. Food professionals and gourmets like to shop there as well because they carry items you can't find in most ordinary grocery stores (dry aged prime beef, whole fresh fish, an incredible selection of imported cheeses, wine and beer.) They also have a bistro and a sushi bar inside as well as a coffee bar, a salad bar, and a hot food bar. I love the produce section. They have vegetables you can't find anywhere else, and everything looks fantastic...no shriveled or rotting fruits and veggies like you often see at grocery stores. The name is also interesting...Whole Foods...as in foods as close to their natural state as possible with fewer additives and preservatives, although they do offer canned and frozen goods as well. They do have a lot of special dietary foods as well such as gluten free products.
