How do you pick the perfect melon...?
I can't seem to get it right. Whether it be honey dew, cantaloupe, or watermelon, they are never sweet! What should the melon look like on the outside for me to know that it's ripe?
Answers:
Cantaloupe: Weigh it in your hand; it should feel heavy. It should not have any soft spots, nor should it be rock-hard. Smell it; if it smells sweet, it's probably ripe. Press on the spot where the vine was attached; it should give just a little bit.
Watermelon: Pick it up; it should be heavier than it looks. Look for a dark, rich green color. Rap it with your knuckles; it should sound hollow.
Honeydew: Again, weigh it in your hands. Don't buy it if it's discolored. Smell it, rap it, or press the spot where the vine was attached, whatever works for you.
Happy fruit-hunting!
