I make a big batch of thick pea and chunky ham soup in the slow cooker and freeze down in batches - a real warmer! French onion's my favorite, but, I love just about any kind of home made soup! I like all kinds of soups -- tomato and chicken noodle are particularly good during cold weather -- but my #1 absolute favorite soup is my grandmother's escarole soup. I call it her "kitchen sink" soup because it has everything but the kitchen sink in it (and the kitchen sink is full by the time you get done making it), but it's very similar to traditional Italian wedding soup. The main difference is my grandmother's soup is a beef stock instead of the chicken stock you find for Italian wedding soup, and Grandma's soup has a lot of extra stuff in it like barley, carrots, celery, onions, the escarole, plus the pastini and meatballs that are in Italian wedding soup. Too bad it takes almost an entire day to make, but when you make a pot it lasts for a LONG time, even if I end up giving soup away (and I usually do).
