Gastronomy book?!

Question:

Gastronomy book?

Can you recommend me a comprehensive, but simple book about gastronomy for beginners? And please add where can I find that book...

Answers: The LaRousse Gastronomic is terrific! Very complicated too, but should be part of a cook's library.
I grew up with the 'Settlement Cookbook' that really goes through the basics of everything. 'The Joy Of Cooking' is a standard that's been around for years.
Go to a bookstore, eBay or used book store!
. I am a former chef and my first real good gastornomical text was the comprehensive French encyclopedia of cuisine, called LaRousse Gastronomic, it is a fair size book and looks intimidating but gives you all the facts about cuisine, ingredients and there origins.

If you have a good cookbook store, even the large chains like Amazon, Barnes and Noble and others would have it or could get you a copy.

When I was a chefs apprentice back in the 1970's I was told to understand food that was the book, I saw one in a store but it was and older version and ordered the updated one, it has been redone since then I suppose, but if your really into cookingor learning it or are thinking of a career in the hospitality industry, it is a good read and investment.
