What are your opinions of Wheatgrass?!

Question:

What are your opinions of Wheatgrass?

Some say it's full of health benefits, and some say it's bogus. They sell 1 oz. shots of wheatgrass juice for a few bucks, which is quite expensive. What do you guys think?

I'm a runner and I'm wondering if it will increase the capacity of oxygen that my blood can carry.

Answers: Wheatgrass will do NOTHING to "increase the capacity of oxygen you blood can carry", that is a function of hemaglobin in your red blood cells, which in turn is a function of your iron intake; eat a steak if you want to improve that!

Wheatgrass primarily includes a lot of chlorophyll, which would enhance your ability to photosynthesize if you were a lettuce or piece of spinach, but as a human being it will do nothing for you.

Here is a post from our forum that hits a couple of issues around this topic:

Being a runner, you are putting your body under heavy strain. This also means that you feel and understand the injuries that you sustain and are likely also highly aware of your personal bests. You are well positioned to answer this question through use which can help mitigate your injuries and help you achieve new PBs.

We have a number of triathletes and climbers who use the juice to shorten recovery times. They also describe deeper energy reserves and this is something that I can personally attest to. In our experience, the effects seem to be quite personal and I believe that the strength of your underlying diet (getting more living foods) is also very important.

In terms of your blood itself, you will find that various pieces of scientific research are emerging that speak to this including this piece that talks about reduced transfusion requriements (better blood) in patients with thalassemia

I think a lot of the negative stories come from people who have experienced negative side effects after taking wheatgrass juice. Wheatgrass is notorious for having mold problems when grown in greenhouses and trays. If it has mold, it tastes bad and can cause problems like headaches, nausea and dizziness. Basically, if it tastes bad (vs neutral) then you should avoid it.

Our business is built on supplying people with clean wheatgrass juice. This is achieved simply by growing it outdoors instead of indoords. If you are interested, you can get clean wheatgrass juice from us at http://www.dynamicgreens.com
