Open jar of Motts applesauce 2&1/2 half months old. No mold?!

Question:

Open jar of Motts applesauce 2&1/2 half months old. No mold?

Still tastes like the day I popped it. What the hell did I just eat?

Did the sniff. Checked for "inclusions". Wiggled it back and forth a bit. Nothing fishy, so I went for it. Did I just eat something that'll leave me enbalmed for 1532 years after I die?

Answers: If in doubt, throw it out. It is highly unusual that it did not spoil. If you don't go through a test of intestinal fortitude, good for you.

I had a 4 1/2 year old container of cottage cheese (I was deployed for the first three months, after that it was just a matter of pride) that smelled as fresh as if I had just bought it. I did not have the testicular fortitude to try eating it though, what were you thinking? Source(s):
I am a fried fish. (best served fresh and hot) apple sauce is not bad until their is mold growing on it. so you are just fine.. and if it was moldy. mold will not hurt you.many vaccinations are made from mold. TOSS IT OUT ITS WAY OLD YOU DONT WANT TO HAVE CRAMPS ALL NITE! I'm glad that you're feeling okay after your taste test :) Personally, I would not have eaten it. Food doesn't have to smell bad in order for it to be spoiled. All foods have a "shelf life." Also, sometimes when we're ill and think that we have the flu, it's actually food poisoning. Whenever I have a dilemma like the one you had I think, "Hmm, if I am doubting this thing to the point that I'm sniffing and shaking it, time to throw it out. I can buy another one at the store."
I think you'll be okay! Check the label on that jar of Motts, it most likely contains ascorbic or citric acid as a vitamin C supplement, also a powerful preservative. I myself have a 3 month old jar of applesauce and though not as fresh as when opened, it's still good, survived a few blackouts w/o being at a cold temp.
