Whats up with Jam?


Okay so I get the whole peanut butter and jelly thing but whose idea was jam. Frankly I prefer jelly over jam and I don't really know what the point of jam is. I don't like the consistency. How about u?

Answers: actually blonddude, jam and jelly are two completely different things.

Jelly is a clear, bright product. It is generally made by cooking fruit juice and sugar with pectin as a jelling agent and lemon juice as an acid to maintain a consistent texture. Jelly is firm and will hold its shape (it “shakes”). Generally, jelly contains no pieces of fruit, although specialty jellies, like pepper jelly, may include pieces of jalape?o or other pepper.

Jam is made from crushed or chopped fruit cooked with sugar, and often pectin and lemon juice. Jam can be a purée of fruit or have a soft pulp, but it does not contain chunks of fruit. jam is d same fing is d english word 4 jelly

and to take it a step further, "preserves" contains whole chunks of fruit, with a base consistency of jam.
a step further than preserves is called marmalade, usually only made with citrus, where bits of the rind is boiled with sugar and included in the mix.

i myself am a jam person. the texture of jelly makes me sick to my stomach Jelly is made from fruit juice and so has no fruit bits. Jam is made by boiling fruit and does have fruit bits. Preserves are basically the same as jam unless you buy them from Smucker's, in which case if it's got seeds in it it's preserves and if it doesn't it's jam. Marmalade typically is a citrus-based preserve, sometimes containing the rind, but other fruits can be used. Apple and peanut butter are called that because they bear a resemblance to dairy butter.
