Is it bad that i ALWAYS crave salt?
not a day has gone by that i dont crave salt. is there a subsitute for it.
Answers: It can mean a few things and it may just be you crave it because you like it but it could also be something more serious... Salt craving can occur due to dehydration. It can also be due to a serious underlying medical condition such as adrenal insufficiency (Addison's disease) — especially if the salt craving is new, persistent and excessive. Other signs and symptoms of Addison's disease include muscle weakness, fatigue, weight loss and low blood pressure. In some cases, salt craving is a symptom of a rare kidney disorder called Bartter syndrome. Source(s):

The bad part is how you act on that craving, such as, eating a tablespoon of salt at a time.
I carve savory foods. I generally am very good and can wait for my meals to get my fix, but on occasion I do splurge on potato chips, pretzels and other salty snacks. If there's a good salt substitute, I haven't found it. Don't bother with the "salt substitute" you can buy at the grocery store. Hideous!
I decided to try cutting back in hopes of preventing another kidney stone (I take in a LOT of salt). Well, I'm either going to have to up my usage of herbs or just cut back.
I really don't think there's any substitute. As long as you don't have a problem, such as high blood pressure, I don't see the harm in it. Some people crave salty snacks, while others (me) crave sweets. Don't sweat it. Later in life, when you're older, you may have to cut back, but for now, enjoy! Yes because too much salt is not good for you. You can try eating fruits. It would be good for you. I crave salt as well....and my doc said it was coz i have very low blood pressure and my body craves it...so, I have salt when I need to so I don't faint!
Bottom line...get yourself checked out by a doc.
G'Luck hello S.G. :)
it depends on many factors , it depends on your age ... you are adult o not ?!
in fact using a lot of salt can cause many of the heart disease and blood pressure not that I have found but as long as your blood pressure isn't high and it doesn't make you retain water there really is no problem with it. I salt just about everything before I even try it and then for most I have a pile next to the food to dunk it in too. I am 35 and have always been like this. My mom used to hide the salt from me. I have no health issues concerning salt either. So salt on young lady............. There is a light salt that is part salt and part potassium. It is almost the same but not quite. I used to eat straight salt. I just add salt to my food now. I also take prescription water pills for water retention and borderline high blood pressure. S.G.
Amber answered the question very well.
Go and see your G.P. and check that there isn't an underlying metabolic problem to be on the safe side.
In the last 10 years or so there has been this demonisation of the good old salt.
The body requires a number of salts to function properly eg NaCl ...Sodium Chloride also Magnesium Cholride etc.
These would normally be absorbed from the fruit and veg that we eat. However the nutrient level of these foods have been declining alarmingly due to over farming and unripe picking.
I actually suggest that EVERYONE should use a good vitamin and mineral suppliment because of that.
