Question:

I noticed in my margarine tub yesterday that there was some water..?

I wanted to know if my margarine has gone bad? I checked for the expiry date and couldnt find one ..any ideas where the water is coming from...Please note the tub lid was snaped on tight....

Answers: Margarine is made from vegetable oil, salt coloring and water. Oil and water do not mix, so in order to make margarine they have to beat the water into the oils, given a little time the water will separate out. It is nothing to worry about. i GOT THAT ONCE TOO...UMM i DON'T THiNK iTS ANYTHiNG BAD ! ... No, it's normal, because it's been in the fridge. The expiration date is probably on the side or top of the carton. Margarine is a trans fat and not good for you at all. Yucky.

The water is just the chemicals separating, just use a fork and stir it up really good.

I totally cut margarine out of my diet 10 years ago, long before the trans fat scare. Once I realized that real butter has the exact same calories and fat as regular margarine I decided to quit putting chemicals in my body and start using real food. most solid margerine is made up of water. it doesnt mean its bad .... i cant really give u any information exept that it is ok .... how i know this is that i work ini a seafood resturaunt where we melt block butter into a liquid state to serve with crab legs and such . we melt 5 gallons at a time wich is like 35 blocks and it always yeilds about .5 gallon of water wich goes to the bottom when settled and we have to drain it off . and it also proves the saying ...... oil and water dont mix. But all and all ... your butter is fine. Very often with soft tub margarine extra water is whipped in to make the spread lower in calories. Sometimes the water separates out and there will be a small puddle of water. Nothing to worry about other than the fact your are paying for water when you thought you were paying for margarine. Condensation....its ok...just slather it on some toast and eat it...I promise you will not get sick
