How safe is it to eat spinach or other spring greens?
Is it safe to eat spinach raw after washing? I know that the E. Coli contamination is over, but I'm still somewhat worried. Can simply washing the vegetables with water get rid of harmful bacterias? Do other salad vegetables have just as much of a chance to get contaminated as the Spinach? How should I handle my produce if I'm planning to eat them raw?
Answers: You can use a vegetable wash to make them safer. RELAX. if they had a recall they would know immediately and pull everything off the shelf. if you wash it really good you have nothing to worry about. If you are seriously concerned about contamination, you can add a few drops of bleach to the water you use to wash your greens to help kill any bacteria. Just make sure you rinse well afterward.
