Are acorns edible?!
Answers: Hi Brian! Yes, acorns are edible. It is not worth the work though; you have to boil them for a really long time, and then when you open them up there is not much to eat inside. They aren't all that great, either!
Only to squirrels, I think! I've never heard of people eating acorns.
I think they have to be processed somehow, but in the second world war they made coffee out of them. My mother said it tasted pretty awful
yes but i dont think they taste very good, but they can keep you alive if thats all you have to eat.
Do know for a fact that pigs eat acorns
Yes
the american natives made bread and used them daily
as I remember...( TV and the boy scouts.)
they must be boiled to rid the tannic acid then,, may have then been dried and ground to a flour( I think that was also boiled and re-ground to form a better tasting mix with other grains and nuts.???)
Oak acorns are edible. The California Miwok tribes ate acorns, pounded into meal and thoroughly rinsed with running water, baked into small cakes. I've tried them, and if you rinse the meal enough to get rid of the bitter tannins, they work a lot like cornmeal. It is a lot of work!
Yes people in some cultures have eaten them in the past, but I don't think many people actually eat them now
I know that a flour is made out of them, mainly for bread.
