Harry and david pears... do you like them? i'm wondering why people like them so much. they say you should eat!

Question: them with a spoon? i usually buy pears and eat them when they're still hard and crunchy, as i think mushy pears are gross. when i think that you eat the h&d pears with a spoon, it makes me think they're super over ripe. i've never had one but was thinking of sending them out for xmas gifts. is this a good gift to give? do you like them?

I personally love them, but I may be biased because I used to live near the H&D HQ and got to visit there when I was in university. They're not mushy at all, but they're not hard like apples. They really take pride in the quality of the fruit and package the pears (and apples, oranges, cookies, candies, etc.) carefully to prevent bruising and damage. All the Comice pears have a beautiful pink blush that is packed facing up to show off their best side. If the pears arrive in ANY condtion that is not perfect, H&D is great about replacing the shipment. I used to send H&D fruit to family members who lived in Alaska where fresh produce was hard to come by and expensive. They loved it.
They're very good. They're not overripe; they're juicy.

I've never heard of eating a pear when it's underripe (hard and crunchy). I know they are sometimes used that way for cooking.
You eat them with a spoon because it is more elegant. H&D market their products as upperclass gifts.

They really do have the best pears, candies and desserts.
