Red beans and rice?!

Question: suggestions for adding a zesty or spicey flavor.

Answers: suggestions for adding a zesty or spicey flavor.
Make a spice blend using 1 tsp ground black pepper, 1 tsp ground white pepper, 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper, 1 tsp thyme, 1/4 tsp oregano, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/8 tsp garlic powder. If you have a spice grinder, then grind it up. If not, just mix them together. Add this spice blend, to taste, to the red beans during cooking or after. If making the beans from scratch, you can also simmer them with a smoked ham hock or similar to add some good flavor.
For a zesty flavor, I recommend Old Bay seasoning, For spicy, add 1/2 can of Chipolte peppers in adobo sauce. If that's too spicy, try some mild pickled jalapenos.
I like to make mine from scratch, but i also buy a box of the Zatarains Red Beans and Rice and throw it in with mine, it gives it a perfect taste.

Good Luck!
put some sausage on it or u can put some Tabasco sauce
They sell these flavored Eckrich kielbasa sausage. I just had some today...there kinda salty. They are flavored with poblano peppers, cilantro, garlic and lime. That would be a good tasting flavor to add.
