Can a person become addicted to Fast Food? Why or Why not? Explain please.?!

Question: I was just wondering, if a person loves alcohol and begins to drink it all the time, then they are an alcoholic, if a person loves drugs and use them all the time they are a drug addict, so if a person loves to eat fast food and eats it all the time, are they fast food addicts? Is this possible?

Hi Sweetie,
The addiction to fast food would be what is known as a Psychological addiction. Drugs and alcohol produce a physical addiction in which the chemicals in the drugs and alcohol produce specific physiological effects that the body become dependent upon. The brain interprets the good feelings produced by drugs and alcohol as a sort of medicine and when the body is dependent on its "medicine" it reacts with illness (both real and psychological) when the "medicine" is taken away. Fast food does not have the physical addicting factors, but can become a psychological addiction which is really more like a bad habit. Anything really can become "addicting" in this way. I hope this gives you a bit of usable info!! Love and luck--MissDelanne
good question
Yes, but that is through laziness and more money than brains.
Sure there are a few healthy food out lets now, but if you were to make and price them you will see those places make 100% profit, less what you have to thrao out at the end of the day.
Of course, they are eataholics.

If you want to see the beast in its nest, just go to any Shoneys breakfast buffet on a sat or sunday morning.
well if you ever watch Supersize Me, he says that you do get addicted to fast food I guess because it has msg, and stuff like that in it. I've heard that msg isn't as bad for your health as once thought, but that doesn't mean it's not addicting. the guy on supersize me said that after a while of eating it every day, he would get headaches and get depressed and then he would eat mcdonald's and feel a whole lot better. So I guess the answer is yes.
Yes, there is a TV program on Discovery Health, it is on on Sundays. It is about a hospital in Brooklyn NY, I think it is called Brookhaven. It has people who are eating themselves to death because they are addicted to food. These people weigh on an average 700 lbs, men and women. They even have 1000 pound people. This hospital is trying to help these people lose weight so they will live. Food gives them the same feelings that heroine gives the heroine addict. It is really quite sad, but interesting at the same time.
Yes. I know more than one person addicted to McDonald's (which I myself have been boycotting since 1985) I'm a professional cook and have been around food venues all my life and the simple fact is Mickey D's ain't all that. Most of it's pretty nasty. But, a lot of people just don't realize what truly good food is only because they haven't had much experience at eating it. I seriously jest that McDonald's either secretly adds some type of addictive ingredient to their food or has the best marketing in all the land...I asked to be pardoned if it seems I'm slamming McD's. Some of my dislike of them is also fostered by their pathetic customer service. The rest of the fast food outlets are somewhat better quality but most any food can be addicting to someone to an extent. I find Sonic to be about the best of the fast food minions but part of that is bias due to I myself am somewhat addicted to milk shakes and unless you make it yourself, Sonic's got it going on especially compared to what else is out there. I'm also addicted to good ice cream and real mashed potatoes and gravy....
some people would say they are. i dont think its possible, i think they are too lazy to cook for themselves, like me, for years :) but make no mistake fast food is just as deadly as alcohol! think also ppl can become addicted to anything that is too convenient...
Food addition is real. Whether it's fast food, or not. Problem with food addiction, we have to eat, so it's tough when food is everywhere, and a necessity to live. Food addiction really does exist.
Yes they may be a little addicted but not as severly as alchol and drugs.
They can easily break out of it using little will power and changing their eating habits.
I don′t like fastfood, especially hamburgers - the roll tastes like a paper.
