In an age when so few people do any cooking, why do we get more and more boring 'culinary' programs on T.V.?!

Question: Are we not getting sick of seeing overblown cooks mixing ingredients that most of us will never use anyway?
We have made celebrities out of characters who ought to be confined to their kitchens!

TV cookery seems to be for the same type of people who like to window shop.
It seems like those are the chefs who r out of their jobs now. Report It

  • They only put on TV what is popular. maybe there isn't allot of cooking in your household (Which is a shame), but there has been a resurgence in recent years in the art of household cooking. The best gift one can give to a friend or family is a fantastic cooked meal. Its a gift that can be given often.
A sweeping generalisation to say 'so few people do any cooking'!
I cook proper meals every single day, as do all of my family & friends.
that is actually a very good question there are lots of cooking shows yet so many peiople lead too much of a busy life to bother to cook! i still cook though but i dont watch those shows coz they make me sooo hungry ha ha
Omg this was soo funny.. I really dont have an answer just wanted to say bravo. I totally agree. :-D My father inlaw is always watching them I can not stand to be at his house when these shows are on.. Love your question.
Speak for yourself-I love to cook and so do most of my friends and family.
I agree that some of the celebrity chefs go overboard with expensive ingredients, but a good cook can find a substitute that will taste just as good.
The reason for all the shows is because they are trying to get more people interested in cooking. Alot more people in the last several years are starting to do more to cook at home.

It's also been because of one of the cooking shows on The Food Network that I have started to want to do a bit more cooking myself and take a cooking class to become a better cook.

As for the ingredients of foods more stores are starting to carry some of the ingredients that used to be hard to find except for certain areas of the world.
THey make money out of it, maybe do some food reclamming while inside the culinary show, also for people to get inspired, :D O fcourse fast food is there, but that's a bad choice.
Its true (and very sad) that these days not as many people cook fresh, home made meals as in the past...but many people do, including me. I think cooking programmes are great for people like me who enjoy watching them, and there is also the hope that they may inspire other people (perhaps like you) to actually try out cooking some of their recipes, when they may not normally cook fresh foods.
Here in the U.S. there's a whole cable network devoted to cooking programs. It was founded in 1993 and is now broadcast internationally in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Korea, Thailand, Singapore, the Philippines, Monaco, Andorra, France, and the French-speaking territories in the Caribbean, Polynesia and Trinidad and Tobago.

That doesn't sound to me like "we" are getting sick of cooking programs.
It's always nice to watch people do something you can't be bothered doing/can't do... I live with a chef so I have live cooking shows and proper food at the end of it. He hates all these shows too... Me, I can't get enough of good old ready, steady, cook! Good ol' Ainsley!
I actually like cooking programmes on TV. My problem is that I can't watch them. As soon as one starts, I get the urge to cook and rush off to the kitchen.

Maybe you are unadventurous in the kitchen. I've rarely seen ingredients which I would never cook. I normally wait to see the ingredients before dashing off!

Now if someone comes up with a recipe for deep fried curried snails/snake, I might just watch the whole programme
