What's the difference in ham and Canadian bacon?!

Question: Went through McDonalds for breakfast and the girl at the window made a point to correct me when I said I wanted a ham and cheese biscuit. She told me, its not ham, its Canadian bacon...what's the difference?

(it was quite a comical morning after that, lol)

Canadian bacon is the back of the pig that is known as peameal bacon that has been sweet pickled-cured and coated in yellow cornmeal.
Ham is made of thighs of a pig then cured by dry or wet cure. Dry cure made of a mixture with salt, then dryed and aged, wet cure is made with brine.
Canadian bacon is more expensive then ham.....There is a big difference in them.........
the location of where on the pig the meat is taken from
Ham comes from the rear leg of the pork carcass, and Canadian bacon comes from the loin, an area that originates just behind the shoulder and travels along the backbone to the hip region. Regular bacon is from the belly -- which is why it contains more fat. "Picnic ham" comes from the lower portion of the front leg. All of these cuts are cured -- a method of preserving meat that changes its flavor, color and texture, but only ham is "ham."

To be honest, it really doesn't make that much difference - especially in a McDonalds breakfast sandwich!
It depends if the pig is from Canada or the U.S. Basically there is no difference at all; personal preference.
