Is defrosting chicken in the microwave a good or bad idea?!

Question: I've never defrosted meat in the microwave before, but I'm contomplating it! I put some frozen chicken in the fridge (I usually use fresh meat) this morning to thaw, and when I got home from work it was still frozen. :( I was planning on using it for dinner & I don't want to go get something now b/c it's late and I don't have anything else for dinner. Have you had a good experience with the microwave? Or how can I thaw it faster? (like in 30 minutes?)

its a bad idea, if it heats up and then you cook it again you can be ill. you should just leave it on the side without packaging, or take your meat out earlier. if you are considering running the chicken under a tap, use the cold one.
we do it all the time. Just make sure to use the "defrost" setting on the microwave, and to keep an eye on it so it doesn't start cooking.
i thaw meat in the microwave all the time.
my microwave has a setting for defrosting meats and poultry and fish and for how much time depending on their weight.
as for how long yours will take, it depends on how much there is to defrost. plus yours is probably partially defrosted from being in the fridge all day.
so maybe 10minutes on the defrost function?
I haven't tried it before, but to my knowledge it's safe to use microwaves to defrost meat. All a microwave does is provide energy to the water molecules in the chicken, which causes it to heat up.
I personally have never had success w/microwaving chicken.
Guess my defrost setting doesn't like me.
It always cooks a little on the edges and gets rubbery.

I sometimes fill the sink w/ hot water and if its still in the package or air sealed I thaw it for a little bit in the hot water.
If not I put it in a ziploc bag.
Seems to work well.
What I do is thaw it a little at a time. Put it on defrost for about ten minutes and let it sit for about ten minutes. Keep repeating until it is thawed. That way, it won't cook around the edges and it thaws out evenly.
