gingerbread men- the sweet warm kitchen of my mothers at christmas time. we were snowed in, the fire was going, my mother was cooking christmas sweets while my grandmother knitted and my father chopped wood for the fire and my siblings and i played. we'd all scramble for scraps when my mother dropped them from the table. as it grew dark, we strung popcorn for the tree.

Both of my grandmothers were the best cooks, one for her homemade donuts, and probably the first donut holes made, I'd walk into her kitchen on a Saturday morning and smell them cooking and then she would roll them in cinnamon sugar. My other Grandmother was famous for her crullers. She had orders all over town for them. Back in the 50's and 60's. Now my mother made cream puffs with a luscious egg cream filling. I could go on and on but--

Those ice cream Snowballs that the Foremost milk man used to deliver at holidays. He would put them right in the freezer. Brings back memories of the old kitchen and a day when we used to feel safe to just let people (like the milkman) come in and out of the house......
