Ha ha haaaaa! We have had a fruitcake tradition in our family for the last 20 years! It started one Christmas when my grandmother gave my father a fruitcake and he hated them! lol He saved it and the next Christmas he gave it to one of my brothers. We have quite a large family and so the tradition has continued with someone getting that same fruitcake every Christmas. This year it will be bittersweet as I just lost my father at only 61 years of age. However, we continue on in his memory as he truly got a kick out of it every single year! I know it will bring both smiles and tears ... but he wouldn't want it any other way.
You are brave my friend. I have tried several different fruitcakes and just cannot stand them. They always taste stale and old to me! lol (I'm sure the one we've passed on for 20 years now is just about ripe enough finally! LOL) I hear we don't make them the "right" here in the U.S. We leave out something really important like ... WHISKEY! Ha haaaa!
Anyhow ... here is a link to a hilarious video of The Fruitcake Lady on Jay Leno making fruitcake with him and Mel Gibson. I hope it gets you there ... if you know her you know how dang funny she is ... if not ... you will crack up!

Hee hee yes... I'm one of those freaks who actually likes fruitcake, so the more the better. My favorite kind is from the famous Colin Street Bakery- their fruitcake comes in these lovely red tins.
Yes, I agree......Colin Street Bakery make the most delicious fruit cake!
If you are thinking of making your own though, this is a really good, seasonal recipe:

I love a moist fruit cake with marzipan and icing. It brings back memories from my childhood and reminds me of christmas.
