Why do donuts have the whole in the middle?!

My sister in law use to work for a foregin family resturant.

she would fry can bisquits and roll them in sugar.

Sometimes they would be doughy in the middle.

but they were still good.
Well, I'm hoping that's where all the calories are at. :)
So you can hold it better and dunk it and so that they can sell donut holes
so they are easier to hold onto and all kids love to make rings out of them!
